Together with Erwin Komenda, he was commissioned to design a new Porsche model to replace the ageing 356. The specifications were minimal: wheelbase no longer than 2.20 m, engine and drive should be at the rear. In addition, the model was to convey the feeling of a genuine Porsche at first glance, which was to prove to be a style-defining factor for the company’s cars today.
