About the Audi R8

The prestige object, still under the management of Martin Winterkorn, definitely sets standards. Provocatively aggressive looks meet motorsport roots. The result was the fastest and most expensive car in the company’s history. The design of the mid-engined sports car is based on the Le Mans quattro study and the Audi RSQ, known from the Hollywood film “I Robot”.

Sales of the Audi R8 started in Germany in April 2007. Initially as a coupé in the 4.2 litre V8 FSI version with an impressive 420 hp and 430 Nm between 4500 and 6000 rpm. The Audi has a top speed of 300 km/h. An experience that every car enthusiast must have had at least once in their life. Driving an Audi R8 is not just about getting around, it is an unforgettable experience.

In 2012, the R8 gets a major facelift. It will continue to be offered as a coupé and Spyder. Technical improvements include the S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox, which brings significantly shorter shift times, revised LED headlights as standard, visually modified rear lights, a modified single-frame radiator grille and identical tailpipes on the V8 and V10 versions.

2012 also saw the end of the R8 e-tron. The all-electric sports coupé with 381 hp and 820 Nm from 2 electric motors was never delivered. This was allegedly due to problems with the battery technology.

However, the latest generation of the Audi R8 with a V10 engine with over 600 hp borrowed directly from Lamborghini showed all the more that the combustion engine is far from dead…
