Driving Ferrari F8 Tributo / 488 GTB / 458 Italia
Which car brand do you think of first when you think of the top class of motorsport? Correctly, the prancing horse on red paint and the myth from Italy. To this day, there is hardly a more emotional sports car brand that is also so polarizing. To be more conspicuous and louder on the road is almost impossible when driving a Ferrari.
about Ferrari
There aren’t many sports car brands that have earned a reputation of the caliber of “Ferrari.” With its mostly red supercars, the Maranello-based factory is considered the dream factory par excellence among automotive enthusiasts. Driving a Ferrari can only be compared to flying, say connoisseurs and admirers.
It comes as no surprise that such an extraordinary company has an equally special story to tell. Unlike other car manufacturers, it did not start out as a company in the true sense of the word – but as a racing team. The ‘Scuderia Ferrari’ was founded in 1929 by the aspiring racing driver Enzo Anselmo Ferrari to finance his own racing activities. As the later founder, he had been active in the Italian motorsport scene for several years and was now trying to intensify his efforts.
After the end of the war in 1945, production of racing cars began again in the new halls. The Ferrari 125C was the first car that also officially bore the name of the founder and competed in various European competitions. Among them was an event that was still in its infancy at the time – Formula 1. The 125 was also the first car to be sold to private customers for financing purposes.
This idea, born out of necessity, developed into what is now the Scuderia’s most important mainstay. The company began to develop road cars that would stand out for their unusual styling. Companies such as Pininfarina and Scaglietti were commissioned with the design of the new cars and turned the bolides into icons of their time. Driving a Ferrari – that was worth good money to the rich and beautiful and soon made sales more lucrative than the racing business. The foundation for future success had been laid.
The current mid-engine weapon – the Ferrari F8 Tributo – puts a whopping 720 hp on the crankshaft with its two turbochargers and, at well over 330 km/h, really leaves every driver with sweaty palms…
